The Works is build on top of a social network platform giving you most of the options of say... Facebook.
Some of the things you are able to do on this site:

• Create your profile, see if there are groups you want to join and create your own group if it does not exists.
• Maintain your own page and add applications to your liking
• Invite other people.
• Update your status just like on Facebook and tell us what you are working on.
• Communicate with other members via their 'wall' for incidental stuff or on the forum for group discussions. Typically all this communication is public. Use private messages to members if it is... private.
• Create and RSVP for events
• Write blog posts about what's on your mind
• Create a private workspace to share files using Huddle.
• Request and offer help using the Market place
